I can’t believe how quickly this year is going by. My monthly round up posts really creep up on me.
So this month has been crazy busy but then again most months are.
Dan and I started the month off celebrating our one year wedding anniversary. We spent the night at the St Pancras Renaissance, you can read about our stay in the Chambers Club here. It was a really nice way to spend our special day and I hope this tradition continues.
It was nice being in London whilst the sun was shining and the sunsets were epic.
We went up the Sky Garden, this was my second visit but I really wanted to show Dan. We had a beautiful day and really enjoyed the view. You can read about my first trip to the Sky Garden here.
I went to Cookies and Scream Bakery in Camden with my gluten and dairy free buddy Nikki to try their vegan goodies. I opted for a cookie dough milkshake and a brownie. It was insanely delicious! All my gluten free buddies get there asap!
Nikki and I basked in the London sunshine and had some ciders on the balcony of the Grafton pub before heading to the new Wahaca in Kentish Town. The food here is always so fresh and delicious, I’ve never had a bad meal there and this particular Wahaca is really cool, check out the sweet interiors.
Dan and I then jetted off to Biarritz to spend a week in the sunshine. We went to San Sebastian and then Bilbao in Spain as well. We had a blast. We ate, drank, swam, got burnt, watched fireworks and did our best to relax. Posts to follow shortly.
We then returned to London for two days where we continued the eating and drinking. Wahaca in Kentish Town has a burrito bar that opens between 12-3 daily so we decided to check it out. It is a great mini Wahaca tucked away downstairs. I opted for the chicken burrito and it was HUGE! I couldn’t finish it, so much goodness.
That night we went to our local pub The Rose and Crown to catch up with friends and eat from their pop up burger joint Smoking Buns. These are some seriously good cheese and chips and the buttermilk chicken is to die for!
Jersey was the next stop in August, we went to visit Dan’s sister. We had such a lovely time and were so lucky to have nice sunny weather. We went out on the boat, saw dolphins, went in a castle and ate out at so many nice restaurants. We also hung out with some pretty sweet animals too.
Dan and I celebrated my birthday a day early this year as on my actual birthday I was celebrating with friends. We started the day at the Duck and Waffle. Having been there a few months ago we were really looking forward to it but unfortunately it was a total let down. The food was OK, nothing great, the service was a bit shabby and we were told 45 minutes after arriving and whilst still eating the kitchen was closing. The place was also empty! This frustrates me so much as it takes months to secure a booking, yet both times we have been there it has been us and 3 other tables. I just find it bizarre and highly irritating.
We then went to the Natural History Museum to see the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition. Having been a few times I was still really impressed with all of the work on show. It was also way less busy than other times so overall it was a really good experience. You can view the pictures here.
My birthday rolled around for another year, I turned 29 and celebrated with my friends at our local pub The Rose and Crown. Thankfully the sun was out so we hung out in the garden all afternoon and ate burgers from Smoking Buns. Dan also got me a cake! I asked for one because I haven’t had a birthday cake since I moved to London. He did well, he got me a cake from Dunns Bakery in Crouch End.
I finally got myself to Street Feast Dinerama in Shoreditch after visiting Street Feast at Dalston Yard twice. I went for lunch so it was fairly quiet, Dan and I shared a delicious chicken burger from Breddo’s Tacos.
We also took a day trip to Cambridge and were lucky enough to get what could be the last of the summer sunshine. Cambridge was only 45mins on the train from Kings Cross and I was completely blown away by how awesome it was. I loved strolling into all of the different Colleges. We even did some punting which was so much fun, our guide was so knowledgable and I learnt loads about the history.
I celebrated a friends birthday at Bad Egg in Moorgate with a bottomless brunch. This seems to be the new trend in London and I must say I loved it! It was really fun and a great girly get together, the food was also brilliant. We sipped on cava for just over two hours and we got to choose three different dishes to eat all for £32 which I think was reasonable for the amount of cava we drank.
Unfortunately I am still waiting to move into our new place. Solicitors are probably my worst enemy at the moment, I literally can’t stand them. Six months down the line and they still can’t get their shit together so we can buy our new place. No amount of emails, phone calls, bitchy phone calls and ranting will help. But I am hopeful we will move soon.
So there is my August, I am returning to work tomorrow after a glorious six weeks off. I am actually hoping for a calmer September though!
Plans for September:

My birthday afternoon tea with friends at Sketch
