This is the first in a series of new monthly round up’s because we are officially on the ‘Big Trip’, we have completed our first month on the road and taken in some beautiful locations.
We left our flat in London on the 3rd of August, we handed over the keys and flung on our ruck sacks and headed for the first stop of the journey, it wasn’t so far away, just a two hour bus journey to lovely Brighton. Leaving home was fairly painless, I wasn’t sad or apprehensive like I’ve been feeling in the weeks prior. I was excited and ready to start the journey, it was a little hard leaving our flat as we haven’t even lived there for a year yet but I’m quite used to not being too attached to things.
We came to Brighton for a wedding and what a wedding it was! The day was filled with so much love and I enjoyed every moment of it. The heart warming ceremony was at the fabulous Brighton Town Hall and the reception was at a nearby hotel, we sat and drank prosecco in the sunshine, ate a delicious meal and danced to the early hours. Wonderful people, so many laughs and a great place to kick off the world tour.
Congratulations to Mark and Tim!
After Brighton we headed over to Jersey for another wedding (tis the season and all). Dan’s sister Mel was getting married so we spent 5 days on the wonderful island. Lucky for us the weather was superb so we had 5 days of sunshine. The wedding was nothing short of amazing and the location at Mont Urgull was phenomenal!
Congratulations to Mel & Pete!
More on the sunshine filled days in Jersey to come.
I then went and met some girlfriends in Barcelona for a proper girls trip, it was filled with lots of sangria, tapas, cava, sight seeing, brunching and general good times. More on this girly trip to come.
The next stop was Mallorca/Majorca (however you want to spell it). There was 10 of us meeting up on the island for a week at a villa. The villa was insane, it was huge, had a fantastic pool, gorgeous views and of course the company was the best part about it. We cooked, drank, played games, chilled out for a week and it was just divine. The best way to celebrate turning 30!
You can watch a video about my time in Barcelona and Mallorca on my YouTube channel here.
The final stop for the first month on the road was Menorca, just Dan and I went here for 6 days to relax, recharge, do nothing before the next leg of the trip. Minorca was a real surprise, I really loved it. The people were super friendly and helpful, the beaches were of course gorgeous and the town of Mahon where we stayed was just perfect.
The first month of the road was just the best way to start, we got to spend time with our family and friends, we got lots of sunshine, good food and plenty of rest.
What I’ve been eating: Tapas, tapas, tapas
What I’ve listening to: Coffee Break Spanish podcast
What I’ve been reading: Walking the Nile by Levinson Wood (amazing, can’t recommend enough)
Does the noise in my head bother you? by Steven Tyler (don’t read it, it was appalling)
Decoded by Jay Z (equally awful).
What I’ve loved: Spanish time – I love waking up late, having a coffee, going back having a siesta, heading back out around 5 or 6 for a stroll and a late meal.
Plans for September:
We are flying out to Kenya on the 13th of September and beginning our 76 day overland trip with Tucan Travel. I don’t know what the wifi situation is going to be so I’m just going to take it as it comes and I’m kind of looking forward to my digital detox. Hopefully I can keep up with this series of ‘Month on the road…”.
