Having been to Las Vegas twice now and experienced it in two completely different ways I feel confident saying Vegas really does have it all! Here are 10 things you can do in Vegas that don’t involve gambling.
1. Drink life size cocktails
Yard glass, football, no matter what you can drink out of it in Vegas at any time of the day and no one will bat an eyelid! Slushies of all colours and flavours are readily available all over the strip and it is a must do whilst strolling around the hotels and it keeps you very chilled in the hot desert sun.
2. Eat at a breakfast buffet
Every hotel offers breakfast but the hotels in Vegas offer breakfast buffets of all kinds. Each breakfast buffet in the hotels is different, you could literally sit down and eat an 8 course meal if you really wanted to. They offer staple breakfast items as well as full on roast dinners, pastas, a dessert bar bigger than you’ve ever seen and pretty much anything in between.
3. Hang out by the pool
Vegas is hot and the only way to cool down is to take a dip in one of the many pools on offer on the strip. As I stayed at the Cosmopolitan on my second trip there I spent a good day just hanging by the pool, during my first visit I went to the famous Hard Rock Hotel pool to chill out, drink and people watch. Nothing beats Caesar’s Palace’s pool though!
4. See a show
Besides New York and London, Vegas has some of the best shows on offer in the world. OK they aren’t exactly West End/Broadway dramatics but if you are into Cirque du Soleil and magic shows you are in the right place. I went and saw V the Variety show which covered all bases.
5. Go to New York, Venice and Paris all in one night
Visiting the Eiffel Tower, taking a gondola ride and seeing the New York skyline is all achievable in one day on the Las Vegas Strip. Ok it’s not the real thing but it’s pretty darn close! Don’t forget to take the rickety old rollercoaster around New York, New York!
6. Take a trip to the Grand Canyon
If you don’t have time to spend at the Grand Canyon you can easily take a plane or bus from Vegas to the wonder of the world where you can then take a helicopter down to the Canyon and marvel at the sheer size of this natural wonder.
7. Watch the Bellagio fountains (more than once)
Morning, noon or night this sight is one to behold. During the day the shows are every 30 minutes and in the evenings every 15 minutes. The fountains blast off into the sky to songs that are totally in sync with each other. The show is just one of the most incredible sights I’ve ever seen. You’ve got to see it both during the day and at night time to get the full effect.
8. Visit Fremont Street
Fremont Street is old school Vegas at it’s best. It is the original ‘strip’ and where it all began. It is slightly away from the Strip bu worth spending an evening out there. During my visit there was a light and visual show to the music of The Doors with a cover band as well.
9. Go clubbing
Some of the best clubs and DJ’s in the world are in Vegas and no trip would be complete without visiting at least one. Clubs definitely favour women over men (you can get in for free/drink free if you are a girl). There are night clubs, day clubs, pool party clubs and everything in between. I went to LAX nightclub at the Luxor Hotel, the Playboy Club at the Palms and Ghost also at the Palms.
10. Get an amazing hotel room
One of the best and worst things about Vegas is the hotel rooms, they are so spectacular that you almost don’t want to leave it! My room at the Cosmopolitan was actually bigger than my flat in London, it had a balcony, bath overlooking the Eiffel Tower and the biggest shower I’ve ever seen!
Vegas is so varied and people go there for various reasons, here are the things that I did in Vegas. As you can see I didn’t gamble because that’s not personally my thing and I do want to point out that there is SO MUCH MORE than gambling!
