Afternoon Tea on Jersey at L’Horizon Hotel
During my recent trip to Jersey I sampled a delicious afternoon tea at L’Horizon Hotel which overlooks the stunning St Brelade’s Bay. I was invited to try their afternoon tea by Visit Jersey and I must say I was looking forward to the traditional afternoon tea in the weeks leading up. You may or may not know but I quite like afternoon tea since being introduced to it in 2014.
L’Horizon Hotel is located right on the beach and the room where we were seated for our afternoon tea couldn’t be closer to the sea.
We had a choice of two window tables upon arrival and our host Cristian straight away filled our glasses with champagne and welcomed us.
We sat back, sipped our champagne and overlooked the beach and both said “this is the life”.
It was time to pick the tea (the most important part of an afternoon tea) and the choice was vast. Cristian suggested a few that would go with the sandwiches and sweets so we took his advice and went for Earl Grey to start before moving on to the Red bush and caramel and finally finishing with the Lady Grey. The selection on teas was brilliant and we were able to smell all of them before we made our final choices.
It was time for the food to be brought out, so without further a do here is how it went.
I adored the savouries that came out, the sandwiches were delicate rounds of bread with toppings. All of the sandwiches were traditional toppings but I just loved how there was minimal bread because I always get too full on bread at afternoon tea so this is a great alternative. The toppings were smoked salmon, roast beef, cheese and ham. All savouries had garnishes to accompany and were all beautifully presented and you could see the attention to detail.
Cristian our host then bought out some more tea for us to sample, we choose from the box of loose leaf tea’s and he left the timer with us as well. Then the main event, the tier of sweet treats and scones arrived for us to enjoy. Cristian talked us through the afternoon tea and then left us to dig in!
There were two scones for each of us, there was a plain and fruit with a dusting of icing sugar to top them off. There was a selection of jams and of course the famous Jersey clotted cream. They passed the scone test, as I sliced into them they didn’t crumble and fall apart and they were the perfect temperature.
On my second scone I chose to have lemon curd for something a little different and it was just lovely. Both of the scones were delicious topped with the loveliest Jersey cream, a great little touch for an afternoon tea on Jersey.
The sweet treats from the afternoon tea had been sitting on the top tier for quite some time before we tucked into them, they were all so beautifully presented I almost didn’t want to touch them (almost but not really). Not only were they pleasing to look at, they were delicious!
I tried the lemon meringue tart fist which literally melted in my mouth.
Next was the mini chocolate eclair which was just as good as it looked.
Then I devoured the delectable carrot cake.
My absolute favourite and winner of the day was the trifle which had berries at the bottom, cream and a raspberry to top it off. This was my favourite sweet treat as it looked just as good as it tasted.
Just when I thought I couldn’t fit in anymore, I did! I finished the afternoon tea at L’Horizon on Jersey with a yummy fruit tartlet.
So afternoon tea on Jersey at L’Horizon Hotel was a total success. Overall it was one of the best afternoon tea’s I’ve had, the service was impeccable, the location was unbeatable and the quality of food was outstanding. If you find yourself in Jersey I would highly recommend visiting L’Horizon and sampling their afternoon tea overlooking St Brelade’s Bay. Special mention to our waiter Cristian, he was so attentive and made us feel comfortable during our two hours at L’Horizon during our afternoon tea.
For those gluten free people, they even have a gluten free menu available. Their traditional afternoon tea costs £17 per person or £25 with a glass of champagne.
