Is September really over already? Seriously where is the year going? Like all months it’s been a busy one but a great one because I BECAME A HOME OWNER! Yes, that is right I own property in London! It’s a very surreal experience putting the key in the door for the first time and realising that this little flat is all mine (and Dan’s of course).
But firstly here is what I got up to in September. September means back to work for me after the summer break which obviously sucks but it means I get to see all my friends every day so it’s not so bad after all. Dan’s birthday is in the first week so we celebrated this year by going to Street Feast Dinerama for a spot of Sunday lunch. Lucky for us the sun was shining, I felt a little uninspired by the hot food so I just opted for a cute ice cream and donut from You Doughnut.
Our Taste Club resumed after a little hiatus, Cara chose a wine bar and restaurant called Tinto in Islington, we opted for tapas style food and it was all so good, we had a little sangria to wash it all down too.
Dan and I celebrated his birthday again with a trip to our all time favourite restaurant in the world – Pizzeria Pappagone’s. I can’t rave about this place enough, the staff, the food and the atmosphere keeps us coming back again and again.
One Friday night was spent at the Green Man Festival in Kings Cross, it was a three day beer and cider event show casing drinks from all over. On our way there we saw a canal boat with a big band on the front belting out the tunes and it instantly got us in the mood. There was a band, a huge tent, outdoor seating and some food to munch on. After one cider us girls opted for cocktails, why not? Kings Cross is changing so quickly and all for the better, I can’t wait to see what happens next.
I also became an Aunty this month, my big sister had a gorgeous wee girl called Ruby May. I’ll admit that I balled my eyes out when I got the first photo through whataspp, firstly tears of joy but mostly because it’s times like that that I realise I’m so far away and I know I am missing out on these precious moments. We’ve had a face time date already and she is just so cute!
So after six months of dealing with the most incompetent solicitors in the world we finally exchanged contracts and moved into our new place! There were tears, arguments and moments where I thought it would never happen but it all seemed worth it when we went to pick up the keys. We celebrated by going to a restaurant by our new place on Broadway Market, a bonus was that is as 30% Tuesdays! Bella Vita’s food was mouth wateringly good and we can’t wait to go back.
There was one day in September where it rained from the moment the non existent sun came up to the moment the sky turned dark and that day was the day I moved house. It took around 5 hours but we made the move from Islington to Hackney, we are finally starting to feel settled in our new home. I’ve also managed to build an IKEA sofa and bed, that in itself is an achievement!
As Street Feast in Dalston was closing we decided to give it one more go after visiting twice previously. I will miss this little weekend food festival and I hope it returns next year. Us girls opted for tequila slushies and Cara and I shared some macaroni and nachos from Mac not Crack.
The weekends have been spent discovering my new neighbourhood in Hackney and thankfully the weather has been kind on the weekends to do so. I walked around London Fields, picked up a coffee in Broadway Market and strolled along the canal. I also stumbled across a cute little flower market after a walk along the canal and picked up a few succulents, we then went to the ever busy Franco Manca on Broadway Market for a take away pizza, is it worth the hype? Yes!
My girl friends bought me an afternoon tea at Sketch for my birthday so we all got dressed up and headed along one Saturday, the room was just like every picture you have ever seen! So elegant and so very pink. The toilets are without doubt the best toilets I’ve ever set foot in (with French maids and all).
The Rugby World Cup kicked off here in England and I am so excited that I get to watch several rugby matches a week, my husband bought me an All Blacks jersey for my birthday and I’ve been wearing with pride for all the matches so far, I am going to a Quarter final match in Cardiff very soon so super excited for that.
I went on the London Eye and on a River Cruise with thanks to Avios and their Do More with Avios campaign, you can read more about it here.
After our London tourist day, we tried the food market at Waterloo which I have been dying to go to for ages, not a bad spot for some lunch.
Last but not least, I got to catch up with two old friends. When I was at high school I did a six week school exchange to Melbourne (total culture shock right), well I met two great girls who I’ve kept in contact with, 12 years later we reunited in London! It felt like no time had passed and it was so good to catch up and have a few giggles.
Plans for October
