This weeks ‘View from the top’ comes to you from my recent trip to Scotland. Urquhart Castle is the very famous castle that looms over the famous Loch Ness in Scotland. It is an impressive sight from afar and up close and the view from the top of the castle over Loch Ness is absolutely divine.
Before entering the castle I would suggest watching the short film about the history of this castle. Urquhart Castle has passed through many clans in Scotland and been the source of many conflicts over hundreds of years. Urquhart Castle was first built over 500 years ago and has been passed between the Scots and the Brits. The film was a great introduction to the castle and at the conclusion a curtain opened and a huge bay window showed the castle right in front of you.
I was lucky to visit the castle on a beautiful sunny day so taking photos of this amazing fortress was easy.
Now on to the view from the top. There are several view points around Urquhart Castle to give you the best views over Loch Ness and I went to all of them and snapped away in astonishment at how beautiful my surroundings were.
A speed boat circled around the castle at one point showing tourists most probably freezing their fingers off but I must say it did look a lot of fun and I’m sure the view of the castle from the Loch would have been well worth it.
There are several view points in the castle ground. One of them is from the top of the actual castle whilst the view below is from the top of the grounds. I spent over half an hour just staring out to the Loch hoping to see a little ripple of Nessie but of course there was no such movement. It was funny listening to the tourists discuss Loch Ness as well, many children were also pointing and yelling “I saw it”. It’s fantastic to think this mystical creature is famous the world round.
I had such a great visit to Urquhart Castle and strongly recommend a visit if you are in Scotland. You can read more about Urquhart Castle here
