This weeks ‘View from the top’ comes to you from the gorgeous villages of Cinque Terre in Italy.
I was lucky enough to visit Cinque Terre in the summer of 2014 and absolutely fell in love with the place. The people, the food but most of all the stunning views. There is only one way to get the best views of the gorgeous villages and that is to get hiking!
Some of the hiking tracks are now closed due to slipping but the one track is still open and it links three of the villages. The walking track begins at the town of Corniglia which is perched on a hill, the walking track takes around an hour and a half to the next village of Vernazza. This is where you get (in my opinion) the best view from the top.
Don’t get my wrong the views on the way to Vernazza aren’t bad either are they? The walking track was fairly easy but the best bit about it was that it was along the beautiful Italian coast line the whole way to the next village.
Once at Vernazza we had a look around the colourful village before heading off to the next walking track where we were then graced with this fantastic view after walking up some very steep steps almost as big as me. You can read more about Vernazza here.
It only took around five minutes of walking out of the village to get this View from the top and it was then I knew I was exactly where I should be. This is the image you see whenever you read about Cinque Terre. This is that colourful village you dream about and to see it right there in front of me totally blew me away.
The colours of the houses were bright red, orange, yellow and green and as you can see the water was a bright turquoise. The feeling of scaling the hill in order to get this view was immense and I was so pleased that I made the trek instead of just getting on a train or bus like I’m sure many people do.
To get this view from the top you must make sure you have appropriate footwear, water and of course a camera to capture the beautiful moment. Excuse the sweatiness of us but it was mid summer in Italy so it was steaming hot!
I was sad to farewell this view as it was the one I had come all of this way for but I was so pleased to have made it. If you are ever in Cinque Terre do not hesitate to do this particular walking track, I promise you will not be disappointed!
