I recently visited Tromso in Norway and was able to go to one of my favourite view from the top views ever!
Tromso is located within the Arctic Circle and to say it was cold at the top of this mountain would be an understatement but the view you get is breathtaking and worth every piercing freeze that gets through your five layers of clothing. To get to the top you take a cable car which is located about a half an hour walk from Tromso town or a short bus journey. We chose to walk it as it was a beautiful snowy day and we wanted to stop off and see the Arctic Cathedral on the way.
The cable car departs every half an hour and costs 150NKR (£12) per person. The journey up was spectacular as the further we got to the top the more fierce the snow got. Once we arrived at the top of the mountain the snow was immense and it was hard to do anything apart from fall over, freeze, see or do anything without getting completely soaked, but I gave it good go!
There is a bar, restaurant and cafe all rolled into one with huge windows surrounding the building so the views (once the cloud clears) are remarkable. We sat next to the roaring fire and thawed out before sinking a Macks and a hot chocolate and watched the world (and the clouds) go by.
Once the sun showed itself and the clouds subsided we headed out to the viewing deck outside and were immediately hit by a harsh cold breeze but the view that awaits you outside is beyond brilliant. The pictures speak for themselves.
I was totally blown away with the sheer size of the mountains in the distance and it was evidently clear we were in the Arctic Circle. We were the only ones out on the viewing deck as well because conditions were a little chilly but we breathed in that fresh Arctic air and took our snaps before thawing out next to the fire place.
After spending a couple of hours up here we headed back down but not without a few more snaps on the way out. Tromso is a truly stunning destination and viewing it from the top of a mountain made it even more beautiful in my eyes.
Have you been up the Tromso cable car before?
