As you may or may not know I am NOT a foodie! I’m a fussy eater who knows what I like but in saying that I have been to some lovely places in recent months and thought I would share my best food experiences in London over the last couple of months.
My first food adventure of the year was at the beginning of January, my husband treated me to a meal at The Booking Office at St Pancras to celebrate 5 months of marriage. You may be aware we kind of love St Pancras and the station as it’s quite a special place for us. We stayed at the Renaissance St Pancras on our wedding night and also got some wedding photos taken in and around the station. The restaurant is also set in the station and is in line with the gothic architecture and the charming surroundings it is the perfect setting for a meal. The restaurant was dimly lit (hence the not great photos) and very cosy.
I was craving a little piece of home so whilst visiting the Apple Store in Covent Garden so we popped into Sacred Cafe for the next food adventure which is located in Stamford Books (one of my favourite shops). I couldn’t go into a Sacred Cafe without having a lolly cake which is a very kiwi treat. They also do a very good hot chocolate and the staff are so friendly.
After reading Emma’s post about brunch I realised that I don’t do enough brunching. So my next food adventure was when my friends and I ventured to Old Street one Sunday morning to go to Lantana. We managed to get a table straight away which is always a bonus but we were a little disappointed with the service and food. The meals were quite small and not overly tasty and they didn’t have gluten free bread for our friend, the hot chocolate was less than tasty and we had to ask for a jug of water three times! So I won’t be returning to Lantana. But there is a great place just around the corner which had an epic hot chocolate (can you tell I don’t drink coffee?). Ozone is firmly on the kiwi coffee scene in London and is very well known for their brunches. We only wish we had gone here instead. We did pop in for a drink and I opted for the peppermint hot chocolate which was AMAZING!
Last weekend I had brunch with Kelly to talk all things blogging and to get her expertise on wordpress, we went for Kings Cross as it’s close to me and it’s where Kelly’s train comes in to London. After deciding Caravan was a no go, the noise on a Saturday morning really puts me off we chose Karpo for the next food adventure which is a gorgeous little cafe right opposite Kings Cross. We both went for the Eggs Benedict of course because we are kiwis! We also both got the banana chocolate shake, the service was impeccable and our waiter was a easy on the eye kiwi chap!
That evening my food adventures continued and I went for a vegetarian Indian with friends which was so yum and ridiculously cheap! We went to Jai Krishna on Stroud Green Rd and can you believe the total bill after ordering so much food it was only £10 each. We couldn’t believe it! The food was so tasty and I was not missing a meat dish at all and best of all it was BYO.
Some friends and I have started a ‘Tastecard Club’ where we go to a restaurant on the taste card monthly. Each member chooses a restaurant a month and keeps it a secret until arrival. This month it was Cara’s turn and she chose well! We went to Chicks on Fire just off Holloway Rd and were pleasantly surprised at not only the price but the quality of food. We had the ‘family feast’ which consisted of two chickens. One was Fajita flavoured and the other Jerk, we got sides of chips, corn and breads and dips and the wine which was very nice indeed was only £14.99 a bottle so we had two of course!
My last food adventure was to Broadway Market this weekend, there is so much to choose from here that it’s almost impossible to get the right food! So I opted for a little treat of Meringues from Meringue Girls. Check out how gorgeous these little drops are. I went for the coconut flavour and it was oh so sweet.
I have a few more food adventures coming up, firstly to Duck and Waffle in one week and Madison at St Pauls in two weeks and it’s my turn next month to plan the next Taste Card club night.
Have you eaten out anywhere nice in London recently?
