2014 was supposed to be the year for saving money for our wedding in August and we made a decision to travel less so we could put more money towards the wedding but after about a month we realised this wouldn’t make us very happy so we found a way to do both and began booking our adventures for the year.
In April we boarded a plane to New Zealand via Singapore for a day to spend two weeks at home with my family and friends. Singapore was great but as we only had 12 hours there it was go go go the whole time. I enjoyed my Singapore sling very much!
Once in New Zealand the sun was shining and it was time to enjoy the good kiwi lifestyle of beaches, pies and friends. It was such a nice two weeks but absolutely flew by.
The next trip was the Paris with my girlfriends for my hens weekend. This long weekend was too much fun and I have some great memories from the trip. After the crazy Friday night out partying we went to the Palace of Versailles, Disneyland and did a lot of eating and drinking! So much fun with my friends and a great send off into married life!
The next major event was the Garden Party at Buckingham Palace that I got tickets to through a ballot from the NZ Embassy. I knew straight away how lucky I was to be in possession of these tickets and the day was so special and memorable. Going into the grounds of the palace was remarkable and seeing the Queen and many other royals was something I knew I would never see again. If you are a kiwi in London do apply for the garden party next year on the NZ Embassy website!
The next break was to Amsterdam. This was our final weekend alone before all the wedding madness commenced and people started to arrive from New Zealand. It was such a nice calming, relaxing weekend that I enjoyed thoroughly! Amsterdam is super cool and is one of those places I can keep going back to.
My sister arrived in July and even though I had just seen her in April it was the best week ever! Having her here and showing her all the best London spots was one of my favourite weeks of the year, I wish we lived in the same city so much! We went to Brighton, Cheddar and Bath and went to see Shapeshifter in Camden along with all the big London sights.
Our wedding arrived so quickly along with my nearest and dearest from NZ and Australia. The wedding had kind of taken over my life and although I was so happy on the day I was so glad that it was over and done with so I could get back to normality! It was amazing to have all the people we loved in one room and the wedding day was lots of fun with plenty of eating, drinking, photo boothing and dancing! I just wish I could do it all again as it went by so quickly!
My favourite part of the year was our two week honeymoon in the Maldives. Nothing says relaxation and luxury like the Maldives and I am so lucky to have a husband who organised the whole thing from start to finish without telling me a thing! It was a dream and the best way to spend our first two weeks together as husband and wife. He did well!
After returning from the honeymoon we were straight on the next plane to Italy for a week in Venice and Cinque Terre. I’ve been wanting to go there for ages so this summer seemed as good a time as any! We drank, we ate, we walked and it cemented our love for Italy!
The next trip was to Jersey to spend the weekend at Dan’s sister’s for his birthday, we were graced with sunshine and that meant boat time! Dan tried his hand at wakeboarding (he had late 30’s blues and wanted to stay young I think) and went to the very special islands of Le Ecrehous.
The final stop on the summer journey was Paris, one of my favourite places in the world! The sunshine, the tower, the food and of course the wine!
The last holiday before Christmas was to Madrid and Porto. This was a little week get away that we booked all the way back in February on a cold winters day. We loved this trip even though we were sick and like always it is nice to get out of London!
We finished our year in freezing cold Germany celebrating the festive season with friends in Cologne and Hamburg. A perfect way to finish an almost perfect year!
I only hope I can be as lucky and happy next year! I hope that you have enjoyed reading my blog this year and about all of my adventures around the world and in London. Next year there are many more travels to come with the first stop in Tromso, Norway in February.
