Beautiful Burano is a small island off the main island of Venice. We travelled there via ferry from Venice and Murano, the ferry took around 35 minutes to reach the island. The last time I was in Venice I didn’t get a chance to visit Burano so I made it my mission this time and I am so pleased that I did because this island didn’t disappoint!
The ferry terminal at Burano looked new and it was clear that this lovely island had recently had some money thrown it’s way. It was so clean and a real breath of fresh air. This island is most famous for it’s colourful houses and I know it sounds weird to just go to an island for colourful houses but it is most certainly worth it!
After stepping off the ferry you only need to walk 50 metres before you spot the first row of coloured houses, you then turn the corner and there is more and then more and well you get it, every single house on this island is painted a bright colour.
We stopped for a slice of pizza before exploring the island more, it’s funny how I never got tired of seeing these individual houses, they were all very kept as well which surprised and pleased me. This island has it’s very own leaning tower too!
After a couple of hours of walking and exploring we got back on the next ferry to Venice. I am so glad that we visited both Murano and Burano as they are both worth the journey if you are in Venice. I could even stay on the island of Burano as it was so peaceful, all you would need is sunshine, good food and great views and Burano has it all!
Have you been to Burano before?
