This was my second visit to the gorgeous island of Venice and of course it didn’t disappoint. We arrived after a short flight from London and quickly jumped on a water taxi from Marco Polo airport into the main centre of Venice. This has got to be one of the coolest airport transfers I have ever done and for only €15!
We were staying very close to the Rialto Bridge and we easily found our lovely hotel among the hustle and bustle of the area. After check in we headed straight to St Mark’s square and spent the afternoon strolling around this area. We had pizza for dinner (of course) al fresco as it was such a lovely evening. The following day we went to Murano and Burano on the ferry from Venice and spent the day exploring these islands. As this was my second trip to Venice I felt like I had to discover the nearby islands and I’m so pleased we did as they were much less busy and had just as much character as Venice. Murano in a nutshell – the place where they make glass. Burano – the place with really colourful buildings. More posts on Murano and Burano to follow.
That afternoon myself and Dan did some more walking around Venice, I love getting lost and this is the perfect place for it. It’s hard to find a landmark or bridge or canal that doesn’t look like the one you have just passed. We stood on the Rialto bridge and watched the world go by and the sun set, it was so lovely. That evening we found a lovely little bar and ordered a bottle of Proseco, we were then given a lovely platter of meats and cheeses to share and then I remembered how great this was and it was one of the things I love about Italy. You order a drink, they bring you food!
We had a meal right on the grand canal that night and it was literally bliss, there wasn’t a better spot on the island to eat some Italian food and drink Proseco. After dinner it was more walking, more eating gelato and more memories made. Venice was over all too soon but I truly feel it is one of those places you can keep returning to, it is so magical, special, unique and undeniably a must do location.
