I read quite a few blogs before deciding to go to Disneyland Paris and I must say a lot of them weren’t exactly positive so I am really glad my experience was totally different! We decided not to stay at Disneyland Paris itself but took a day trip from Paris.
We purchased our tickets before going from here Disney book tickets. You didn’t need to specify a day and it could be used up to a year from purchase. The price for the ticket was £52 which I thought was quite reasonable for a day at Disneyland Paris.
Trains from Paris:
Take a RER B train and get off at Marne-la-Vallee-Cheesy (it is clearly sign posted with Disneyland though). The cost each way was €7 so again quite cheap. The train journey took and hour on a comfortable double decker train.
We were all wearing Disney t’shirts and Minnie Mouse ears and were more excited than a group of kids! We got to Disneyland Paris, walked straight in and were greeted by the beautifully manicured gardens with Micky’s face smiling back at us. After a few selfies we walked through the gates, scanned our tickets and were delighted with what was on the other side. The cutest little old style American style buildings with fun big band music blaring out (I can imagine for the staff the feeling is different). After a few steps you are then in sight of the incredible Disneyland Paris castle, my friends very kindly made me shut my eyes until it was in full view. It’s pretty spectacular!
Upon arrival there was a parade about to start and it was Mary Poppin themed, what an amazing start to our day. The characters all came out, there was around 50 dancers all belting out the classic tunes. If you wanted a photo the characters were kind enough to come and stand with you but otherwise it was more of a show.
After a little sing song we headed for Space Mountain. In my opinion this was the best ride, it was fast, scary and not too short and because young children can’t go on this ride it also meant no lines, so we were able to go on it twice! We spent most of the afternoon trying to get on every ride and we did pretty well. We went on the famous Corousel (which didn’t last very long), Peter Pan, Alice’s Maze, It’s a small world (remember that Simpsons episode?), Big Thunder Mountain which was my favourite ride, Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast, Pirates of the Caribbean, Mad Hatters Teacups and Phantom Manor. The old classics like the teacups and carousel were magical and too much fun. The lines weren’t too long the only waiting time which was long as 50minutes for Big Thunder Mountain but because it was the best ride it was worth the wait. A few of the rides were not working on that particular day and some stopped working while we were in the line waiting. One thing that was disappointing was that there were no characters walking around so it was lucky we saw the parade early on.
By early evening we were pretty tired so needed some food for energy, it’s fairly basic there – sausages, chips, burgers etc. After refuelling we got all the rides done we hadn’t got to and then found a spot right in front of the castle for the 10pm light and laser show. We weren’t expecting it to be much but the show was an absolute spectacle that we were so pleased we stayed for, it was the highlight of the day. It was a total mash up of all the Disney classics with lasers, fountains, fireworks and a projection onto the castle of your favourite disney characters. It is hard to describe but it was just so magical and we found ourselves singing along to the Lion King and Beauty and the beast. The show lasted around 30-40 minutes and once it was done we all stood there in awe thinking did that really just happen? If you go Disneyland Paris you must stay for the show!
We jumped on the train back to Paris and were tucked up in bed by midnight, it was such a magical day made really special by all of my fantastic friends wearing their Minnie ears and Disney t’shirts. If you get a chance by all means go! Although I have nothing to compare to because I have not been to the ones in the States I still think it is a great day out with all the disney magic.
