I left home (Auckland New Zealand) on the 8th of April 2010 to move to London and travel the world. I feel that I have successfully achieved this but even after four years there is still SO much more to do!
Leaving home was surprisingly one of the more easier decisions I have made in life. I quit my job, gave away my clothes, packed a backpack and booked a one way ticket to London via America.
Luckily being a teacher I get 13 weeks of holidays a year so times that by 4 it means I have been on holiday for 52 weeks (yep that’s a whole year!) since I got here, that doesn’t include all those weekend trips either. So it’s fair to say I have utilised my time here pretty well. I can’t say it has flown by as the first year was pretty tough but the last two years have sure been great once I felt like I had settled with a job and a house, got some money behind me (to spend travelling of course) and a great group of friends.
I know my time in London is limited but I do feel like I have made the most of my time and do enjoy living in such a vibrant city. Ironically I am spending my four year anniversary back at home in New Zealand but this will be my last trip home before I move back there.
Highlights from the years:
Year 1 – Two weeks in America, Five week Europe summer backpacking trip and Christmas in Egypt
Year 2 – Partying in Ireland, going to Estonia (a country I’d never heard of), eating my way around Italy and Greece and meeting my future husband.
Year 3 – Going on safari in Tanzania, dancing the night away in Ibiza, gambling in Las Vegas, sun bathing on a beautiful island in Fiji, going up my first ever mountain in Queenstown and being loved up in Paris.
Year 4 – Going to my favourite country Iceland, hanging out in freezing Copenhagen, drinking cava, sangria and eating tapas in Barcelona, high rolling in the South of France, getting engaged during the Rolling Stones at Glastonbury, visiting 7 countries over the summer and sailing around Croatia.
There have been so many great memories over the past four years and I really am looking forward to the next year! Who knows what the next four years will bring?
