When I received this request there was so many stories running through my mind. From night boats in Thailand, night boat to Ireland, night train in Egypt (I am seeing a trend here and they all include sleeping pills and night transport).

Also those incredibly memorable for all the right reasons – the most insane hotel room with the comfiest bed in the world in Las Vegas, sleeping under the stars on Maya Bay on Phi Phi Island aka ‘The Beach’ or sleeping in the smallest room/cupboard on a yacht in the Adriatic sea somewhere in Croatia with the window open and staring out to the stars.

But the most memorable nights sleep while travelling would have to be a night camping in the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. We only camped in the Serengeti for one night but one magical, scary, surreal night it was.
Between the cries from hyenas, growls from lions and swishing of elephants tails throughout the night (and full bladders as we were all too scared to get up in the night) it was magical. We all camped as close to the toilets as possible without realising that our lovely guide camped as close as possible to the camp fire (duh) and quite away from us, this didn’t dawn on us until bed time. There were no fences, nothing between us and some of the most dangerous creatures in the world but it was totally liberating.
The best thing for me was the star gazing though. I have never and probably never will see stars like I did that evening. I can’t even describe how many there were, how bright there were and how beautiful the sky looked that night. Going on safari was a real treat and something I have always dreamed of doing and I am pleased that it brought me my most memorable nights sleep while travelling.
