The next morning we had to be up by 6am ready for our game drive into the crater. We drove for quite some time, seeing loads more zebra, wilder beast, buffalo, hyenas, hippos. We spotted one lion in the distance, we saw lots of elephants, one even strolling right in front of us. Later in the day we spotted a family of lions, 2 males and the rest females grazing. Us and about 50 other trucks of course, everyone is on the radio informing each other of the sightings so within minutes everyone is there. We also saw 2 rhino in the distance. Although the back drop of the crater was stunning I was disappointed with the game drive as it was difficult to get up close as there was not many roads and you are not allowed any off roading. Then again, I can’t complain it certainly was an interesting way to spend Christmas Day.
By 11.30 am it was all over, we headed back to camp for lunch and to pack up and to leave the Serengeti National Park. Although it took us 2 days to get there, we only got 2 morning drives. I was disappointed we didn’t get to spend more time there as the experience was fantastic, but I suppose it will always leave you wanting more!
