We set off from Gatwick on Friday night, and arrived in Stockholm (well 1 hour 40 mins away from Stockholm by bus thanks Ryanair). We checked into our hostel which was located right on the waterfront in the Old Town and went to sleep as it was 2am by the time we got there. On Saturday the sun was shining and the air was crisp so we set off for a stroll. The buildings were beautiful, not like anything I’d seen before.
Stockholm is made up of lots of tiny islands and alot of it is on the waterfront so it was just lovely!
The first stop of the day was the Vasa Museum, but hot dogs and mulled wine first to warm us up. At the museum is a ship that sank in the Stockholm harbour on it’s maiden voyage in 1628 and was salvaged in 1961 and rebuilt for the museum. It’s a pretty amazing sight.
After that we had a walk around a lovely park, and just enjoyed the fresh air. We went on a boat trip around the Royal Canals in the afternoon, unfortunately I fell asleep and missed most of it.
That night we all went out for a few too many drinks in the old town at an Irish pub of course and had a good night! The Sunday was spent mainly strolling and eating in the old town. It is all cobble stone streets but was unfortuntely full up with tourist tac.
So to sum up the weekend trip away, we spent 18hours travelling (trains to airport, flight, bus etc), it was beautiful but cold. Was it worth it? Yes but I shall choose my next weekend trip location more carefully and I think that will be the last time I will fly Ryanair.
