The hotel in Aswan was lovely and I had probably the best room in the whole place, literally step out and into the pool and that was the first thing I did. We had a lazy day in the sun before we all had to get up at 2.30am the next morning to go to Abu Simbel.
We had a convoy of tourist buses with a police escort as it’s driving through the desert for 3 hours and is deemed quite dangerous, I awoke to see the sunrise over the desert which was impressive. We arrived at 6am to something we didn’t really know anything about but I was so glad to be there.
The spot was beautiful, right by a very large lake with the sun beating down. It was a beautiful temple carved out of a giant rock, we got a short history lesson on it and then free time to explore for an hour or so, there were two temples on the site, both as amazing and impressive as the other. Unfortunately no photos on the inside, but there was lots of little rooms with endless hieroglyphics writing. It was incredible to see how they moved it in the 80’s from one position to another one block at a time, it looked pain painstakingly slow but worth it to preserve this incredible temple.
