That day we went on a city tour to see all of the sights including the Golden Gate Bridge. It was covered in mist at the time so the photo opportunities weren’t great but still amazing to see it so up close. That evening we went on a cruise on a catamaran for the sunset under the Golden Gate bridge. It was a lovely experience and a couple even got engaged on our boat which was lovely. It was such a nice way to spend the evening and I highly recommend it. That night we had dinner at Bubba Gump Shrimp a restaurant completely dedicated to Forrest Gump! It had memorabilia from the film and a menu that tied in very nicely with the film. Later that night we went to an Irish bar, there’s loads of them in San Fran!
The next day we went to the hip neighbourhood of Haight Ashbury. This is the town that bred hippies back in the day, it is still a very hip place with cool looking people everywhere. We then moved onto china town and that evening we had a night tour of Alcatraz which was brilliant! It is such an eerie place with so much history! It was so much fun being there at night as well.
The next day we were given the opportunity to go to a baseball game, baseball is not something I am interested in but it seemed like a fun thing to do whilst in the city. It was the Giants vs Cardinals, the atmosphere was great and it was fun chatting to the locals but by the end I still hadn’t picked up the rules!
The last night in San Fran was our last night with our tour group (sob), it was very sad to be saying goodbye to all these great people I’d met over the last two weeks and we had all become so close. We went to the Castro (gay district) for an Italian meal, then hit up a gay club for the evening. We danced the night away and said our farewells.
I cannot recommend enough the trip ‘L.A to the Bay’ from Contiki. It was brilliant and I couldn’t fault it!
